Welcome to PUGO
Pain of urogenital origin is an important specific field with numerous acute and
chronic pain conditions generated by pathology, dysfunction, and surgical
procedures. Acute insults may develop into chronic pain states with
alterations of central nervous system and autonomic function. There is a real
need for intensification of basic and clinical research into the etiologies,
and to optimize approaches to therapy using both current and new drugs and
techniques.
Anesthesiologists, urologists, neuroscientists, psychologists, and colleagues from many other specialties involved with multidisciplinary centers for pain management and basic research of pain from the urinary tract have realized that many patients who complain from these types of pain syndromes often suffer immensely, and without the benefit of specific pain relief strategies.
PUGO Objectives:
- to provide a forum for members to engage in discussion on the diagnosis and management of pain of urogenital origin
- to focus on obtaining data on the types and magnitude of these specific problems
- to initiate discussions and multicenter clinical and basic studies in order to advance the knowledge into their cause (often unknown at present)
- to secure more efficient and globally accepted therapeutic approaches.
